CyFy@DC 2022 | Shaping How the Chips Fall: The Race to Secure U.S. Semiconductor Leadership

The U.S. has dominated the global chip industry through cutting-edge innovation for decades, but geopolitical tensions, supply shortages and foreign dependencies have become critical pain points in U.S.-China relations. Recent policies aim at promoting and protecting the U.S. semiconductor industry while curbing China’s technology ambitions. These unilateral actions,  however, have also created uncertainty within the industry and among U.S. partners.

The panel, moderated by ORF America’s Dr. Andreas Kuehn, discusses the state of the U.S. semiconductor industry, assesses the implications of the recently passed CHIPS and Science Act of 2022 and new, far-ranging chips export controls, while also elaborating on government measures to deny sales of critical chips and technologies to geopolitical competitors.
