Should India Move toward Vehicle Electrification?

Because climate and air pollution emissions from electricity generation in India vary by state in India, the emissions of electric vehicles compared to conventional counterparts in India will also vary. This analysis compared the emissions of two-, three-, and four-wheeler electric vehicles with gasoline, diesel, and natural gas vehicles. Compared to their conventional counterparts, electric vehicles may reduce greenhouse gas emissions in many states in India, but also increase air pollution from electricity generation because most Indian coal plants do not control their air pollution emissions.
