Climate and air pollution emissions from electricity generation in India vary by location and time. This analysis is the first to estimate more precise emissions estimates of electricity generated by state, season, and time-of-day in India. As electricity demand and living standards in India increase, the country will plug in new technology like electric vehicles and air conditioners. Where and when these new technologies will plug in will matter more as India expands clean energy. This has implications for climate finance as these estimates can evaluate whether clean energy interventions will reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
