U.S.-India Energy Monitor, No. 1

Observer Research Foundation America

Days before presidents and prime ministers from around the globe gather for the UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, Scotland, Observer Research Foundation America brings you a snapshot of energy trends across two linchpins in the global climate imperative - United States and India. Packed with charts and summaries, this first edition offers a broad overview of installed capacity, consumption by source, the distribution of that consumption across renewables and energy trade between these two “essential” energy partners. As we note, renewables now account for 25 percent of India’s installed capacity. India is also home to the fourth greatest installed renewable energy capacity globally, behind China, Brazil, and the United States. We hope this compilation offers readers a useful reference point both in the immediate context of COP26 and beyond. World leaders at Glasgow will assess progress since nations agreed in the 2015 Paris accord to limit warming to less than 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit). This global huddle is widely seen as the last chance to hold global warming to 1.5 C (2.7 F) above pre-industrial levels.
