G20 and the Global South Initiative
ORF America's G20 and the Global South initiative aims to build on the achievements of the IBSA+Indonesia G20 presidencies and propose new frameworks of cooperation, align policy agendas, launch targeted initiatives, and institutionalize development priorities.
Three key areas of focus are sustainable finance, digital public infrastructure and emerging technologies, and clean energy transition. Through policy-relevant research outputs and curated convenings, the initiative seeks to provide an inclusive platform for the Global South to enhance collaboration both within the G20 and beyond.
The consecutive G20 presidencies of Indonesia, and India, Brazil, and South Africa (IBSA) mark a pivotal moment to re-anchor the G20 priorities to the Global South. Together, these countries have championed a revival of the development agenda, centered on accelerating progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals, food security, digital transformation and climate action at a time of waning multilateralism, rising inequality, and diminished development cooperation.
